Since 1999, Carvel Munroe has worked within education circles to support learning by addressing conditions that go beyond the classroom.
During his career, he has learned under the guidance of professionals with advanced degrees, working in complex and often volatile environments. Through these divine assignments, he has fulfilled many hours of observation and field work which has cultivated his ability to recognize patterns and see gaps that offset potential in youth and adults, individuals and teams. He is intimate with learning that takes place in school and out of traditional school hours. Learning in faith-based communities and learning with increased constraints, such as the county jail.
Mr. Munroe holds a Master of Arts in Instructional Design & Technology from the University of Central Florida and a Bachelors of Arts in Sociology.
My purpose is to bring learners to the right of the mean (above average).
It does not take much to be average. My educational philosophy is to bring learners to the right of the mean by facilitating instruction with a clear end in mind enabling learners to be competent and confident with the knowledge, skill, and attitude acquired from the learning experience.
Using backwards design to identify and align terminal objectives with a clear criteria and conditions for assessing the targeted objectives. To be truly effective, an instructional approach grounded in theory and backed by evidence solidifies the mechanics of the learning. I believe learning should be an encounter interwoven in instructor-learner interactions, learner-content interaction, and when applicable, learner-learner interactions. This can be done synchronously and asynchronously with the support of technology and multimedia to fit any theory and instructional strategy.
Ultimately, learning is successful when learner motivation is identified and matched. Motivation is the oil for learning. To that end, practicing Keller’s (2010) ARCS model of motivation; Attention, Relevance, Confidence, and Satisfaction will increase the likelihood of successful learning experience and the transfer of knowledge.
